TREAT DIABETES SAVE A LIMB (TDSL) was founded and incorporated as a 501(c) (3) Non-profit organization in the state of OHIO in 2019.
Our Story
In 2006, we received the sad news that our mom who lives in Guinea has type 2 diabetes. Within 1 year, she developed cataracts and had to have surgery in both eyes. In 2008, we received another news that her right second toe had to be amputated because of diabetes complications. Subsequently, her right big toe was also amputated. We were devastated and shocked by the news. In 2009, our mom travelled to Germany to get treatment for her diabetes with her vials of insulin from Guinea. Once there, she found out that the insulin she had been using all this time was ineffective (junk), and it was basically just “water in a bottle.”
We asked ourselves how could this happen to our mom? Could we have done anything to prevent it? Why was the insulin from Guinea ineffective? What can we do to prevent diabetes complications from happening not only to our mom, but to all diabetic patients in Guinea? To solve these problems, I decided to create this non profit organization Treat Diabetes Save A Limb.
We hope that you will join us in this journey and in the process you will help save someone’s eyesight, kidney, limb, or life.
